How is a bed and breakfast different from a hotel?

Unlike a hotel, a bed and breakfast is characteristically operated in a large historic home, each with its own story to tell. There are fewer guest rooms, and they are uniquely furnished. Breakfast is almost always included and is typically of better quality than you would be served at a hotel. A bed and breakfast usually costs less than a comparable hotel and offers better value and a more personalized stay. If you are looking for one-of-a-kind accommodations that truly allow you to experience the locale, stay at a bed and breakfast on your next trip!

How is Grand Colonial Different from any other Bed and Breakfast?

Grand Colonial Bed and Breakfast assures an elevated guest experience by providing comfortable accommodations in a historic and thoughtfully decorated space, the best in service, and a homemade breakfast that sets the standard in taste and quality. Our most satisfied guests tend to appreciate history, originality, and love homemade food. We don’t just care for our guests, we care about our guests!

Is Grand Colonial pet friendly?

We can accommodate certain well-mannered dogs upon request. We charge a $25 pet fee (regardless of length of stay) and a $100 fully refundable cleaning deposit at check in. We also require proof of core vaccinations at check in. Pet arrangements must be made with us via telephone at 315-982-5004 before your stay.

Do you have any pets as full-time residents?

Yes, we have a dog named Brick. Unless you specifically request contact, our dog will not be permitted in guest areas while you are staying with us.

Where can I smoke?

We are happy to provide a smoke-free environment. In accordance with state law, smoking is prohibited anywhere inside the grand house, including in your guest room. A $150 recovery fee per incident will be charged for smoking in your guest room. A designated smoking area is located outside.

What if I have allergies?

We want Grand Colonial to be an inviting place for all our guests. If you have allergies to certain foods, pets, cleaning supplies, or fragrances, please let us know in advance. We’ll take whatever precautions we can to minimize exposure. Please note we prepare and serve a variety of foods, and we do allow dogs. Even though our hardwood floors help keep pet dander to a minimum and we clean everything meticulously, we can’t absolutely guarantee an allergen-free environment. For this reason, we discourage guests with severe allergies.

Where should I enter the grand house?

We have designated the east porch as our guest entrance. Look to your left for the Guest Entrance signs after you enter our driveway. Our Guest Entrance is accessible from the driveway, and you are welcome to drop off luggage at the guest entrance prior to parking in our complimentary off-street parking lot behind the house. We encourage our guests to drive with caution, as a segment of our driveway is narrow.

As a convenience to our guests, the guest entrance door is operated by a code-enabled keyless entry system. You’ll be given a unique code at check-in. It’s one less key you’ll have to carry!

Where should I park?

We offer complimentary off-street parking for our guests within designated spaces in our parking lot, located behind the house.

All-night on-street parking is prohibited in the Village of Herkimer between 2 A.M. and 6 A.M.

Guests should drive with caution and exercise care when entering or exiting the parking lot. The space between the house and fence is narrow and could cause damage to your vehicle.

What time is check in and check out?

Check in is between 3:00 P.M. and 8:00 P.M. Check out is at 11:00 A.M. Depending upon occupancy, we’ll do our best to grant early check-in and late check-out requests.

How late can I check in on the day of my reservation?

We kindly ask our guests to check in between 3:00 P.M. and 8:00 P.M. We understand you might encounter delays in your travel plans, so we maintain flexible check-in times. If you are unable to arrive by 8:00 P.M. please notify us by phone at 315-982-5004.

What is the maximum length of time I can stay?

New York state law allows a continuous stay of up to 14 days.

Can I keep the luxury Grand Colonial signature bathrobe in my guestroom?

We provide a luxury Grand Colonial signature bathrobe for your enjoyment while you are our guest. We know you’ll find it to be so comfortable, you’ll want to take it home. If you would like to purchase a robe, we offer them for sale at GC Mercantile, our gift shop.

What is GC Mercantile?

GC Mercantile is our pop-up gift shop. We sell many of the items used to make your stay memorable right out of an antique hutch. The next time you stay with us, look there for all your favorite things, including signature Williams Sonoma aprons, Temp-tations bakeware, pure New York State maple syrup, Beekman 1802 products, homemade peanut butter dog treats, handmade greeting cards, and an assortment of Grand Colonial logo merchandise.

Does Grand Colonial serve alcohol?

State law prohibits us from selling or serving our own alcoholic beverages to guests.

You may bring your own alcoholic beverages. We are also happy to recommend nearby retail locations where you can purchase your own alcoholic beverages once you arrive.

Is breakfast included in the price of the room?

Yes, we wouldn’t have it any other way.

Is the house haunted?
