A Warm B&B Between Rides on Central New York’s Snowmobile Trails
When you’re snowmobiling Central New York, the day rides hard and the evening should feel easy. Grand Colonial Bed and Breakfast in Herkimer puts you in the middle of the Mohawk Valley’s snowmobile corridor with a comfortable, classic main-street setting to come back to each night. Real beds, a full breakfast arranged at check-in, and a quiet residential neighborhood where you can park, plug in, and unwind.
Why Snowmobilers Choose Grand Colonial
Snowmobilers tell us the same things every season: it’s nice to ride hard, sleep well, and start the next day clean and warm. Grand Colonial gives you a full breakfast each morning, four uniquely decorated guest rooms each with private bath, and central main-street access for grabbing meals and supplies between rides. Whether you’re trailering in for the weekend or doing a multi-day ride, the location works for both.
The Mohawk Valley Snowmobile Corridor
The Mohawk Valley region connects to New York State’s broader Northeast snowmobile network through a system of NYSSA-affiliated club trails. Herkimer’s central position means quick access to multiple trail systems depending on snow conditions: head north into the southern Adirondacks, east toward Mohawk Valley clubs, or west into the more rolling Mohawk and Cherry Valley terrain. Local clubs maintain corridor trails throughout the riding season — check the New York State Snowmobile Association for current trail conditions and club contacts before you ride.
Other Things to Do in the Off-Sled Hours
After-ride options in walking and short-driving distance: warm meals at Crazy Otto’s Empire Diner just down West German Street, longer dinners at several local restaurants we recommend to guests. If you’re bringing non-riders along, our guide to things to do near Grand Colonial covers museums, shopping, and waterfall hikes.
Where to Stay vs. Camping or a Trailside Motel
Some snowmobilers choose trailside motels for proximity. The trade-off is usually thin walls, fluorescent rooms, and breakfast from a gas station. Grand Colonial is a 4-room historic B&B with private baths, antique-warm rooms, and a coordinated breakfast. The same nightly rate often gets you a more restorative experience between long ride days. For groups of 6 or more, see our group and family reunion stays page.
What to Bring & Plan
For New York State snowmobile registration, helmet rules, and trail-pass requirements, consult New York State Parks. Check trail conditions with the New York State Snowmobile Association (NYSSA) and local riding clubs before each day’s ride. Bring layered cold-weather gear suited to wind-chill conditions; we don’t lend riding gear at the B&B.
